Chapter 66

The Failure Alchemist of the Royal Capital

Gift to the Spirit King [ 1 ]

“So, I was thinking about wanting to thank the Spirit Kings for everything they’ve done,” I said, currently sitting across from Riinat Drag’s workshop. Today, Drag was out, so we didn’t hesitate to talk about the Spirit Kings.

“Hmm… From here on out, no peeking at the Spirit Kings!” Riin exclaimed, swinging her arms around above her head. I wonder if that has any effect?

“No, no! It’s a surprise!” I also yelled towards the ceiling. I hope they can hear us.

“Now then, let’s get to the main topic!” Riin turned her body towards me.

“Okay!” I nodded vigorously. I need to think of something that they’ll be happy to receive!

“First of all, it’s important that both Daisy and I are involved,” Riin said. I nodded in agreement.

“Let’s see… for the material, I could use the alloy I made, and Riin could work on it. We could collaborate on it,” I suggested.

Riin also nodded in agreement.

“I’m sure they’ll be delighted! Although they might be embarrassed,” she said, imagining it and getting closer to me with a giggle.

“Going to collect the materials would be too rushed, so I was thinking of searching for materials at a material shop. Would you come with me?” I asked Riin. She happily agreed.

We arrived at a street where material shops were clustered. The trees on the street were a deep shade of early summer, and the sunlight shining down on us was warm enough to make us sweat a little.

We stopped at one shop that dealt with gems and magic stones. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just had a feeling that they would have what we needed.

“Hello!” we greeted the shopkeeper.

“Welcome! What can I help you ladies with?” the shopkeeper asked, not underestimating us just because we were children. That was a relief!

“I’m an alchemist. I’m looking for materials to make an alloy with protective effects,” I explained.

But as it was our first time in the shop, we didn’t know where to start looking, so we looked around the store.

…There were so many things that we didn’t know where to begin!

“The things in this glass case are either valuable as gems or have special effects as magic stones! The ones in that wooden box are like if you find a hidden gem, it’s lucky! They’re all five big copper coins each,” the shopkeeper explained, seeing us struggling.

So, we first quickly examined the things in the glass case to see if anything caught our attention.

…This isn’t quite right. I’m not feeling it.

As a last resort, I started picking up various stones from the wooden box and examining them one by one.

…This one’s not it.
…This one’s just pretty.
…Oh?

…“Intermediate to High” is new. I wonder if there will be any differences in the result of alloying? It might actually be an amazing thing?

The stone was the size of a riverbed pebble that could fit in the palm of my hand. It had a smooth, gentle texture and a milky white color with a pattern that looked like white mica. Besides the appraisal result, there was something that drew me to it.

I picked up the stone and explained the appraisal result to Riin, who whispered to me for advice.

“Hey, Riin. What if we make matching rings for ourselves with this stone as a gift to the Spirit Kings, and make three pendants with the leftover alloy?”

“Yeah, as long as you give me ingots the size of the previous ones, it should be enough,” she said.

…With this, we could leave Mina and Marcus to take care of things at home without worrying about them getting caught up in any incidents. Plus, I want to thank Cachua for helping out with the shop management!

“I’ll take this stone. Do you have any ingots of pure silver or other metals in this shop?” I asked the shopkeeper, standing behind the glass case.

“Oh, did you find something good, miss? We have some metals for making accessories, but would you like me to take them out for you?”

“Yes, please!”

“For pure silver… ‘Well, it could work,’ I guess?”
“For gold… ‘Don’t you see it doesn’t match me?’”
“For mithril… ‘I want to climb the stairs of adulthood ♡,’ and from the mithril side, ‘I’ll make you a full-fledged member ♡.’”

The fact that there’s a heart on it probably means that the compatibility is very good. They both seem enthusiastic about it.

“Mithril seems to have good compatibility, so may I have one mithril ingot, please? Also, do you have any small gemstones like the one on my ring?”

“For that, the store across the street has a wider variety, so I think you can choose from many different types!” the shopkeeper said, pointing to the jewelry store across the way.

We finished paying for the “Stone of Fortune” and mithril ingot at that shop and moved to the one across the street. As the owner of the shop across the way had said, they had a variety of stones with different shades of green, sizes, and cuts to choose from, but we were able to purchase stones with a matching color and design that we could call a set.
